The Book ''Armenian Youth at the Crossroads of Uncertainty and Hope'' Presented at Yerevan State University

On 30 June, the presentation and discussion of the monograph Armenian Youth at the Crossroads of Uncertainty and Hope by sociologist and Center for Educational Research and Consulting founding director Marina Galstyan took place at Yerevan State University.

The event brought together representatives of academic and educational institutions, government bodies, international organisations, research centres, civil society, and the youth sector, serving as a platform for professional and public dialogue on issues affecting young people in Armenia.

The event opened with welcome remarks by Mikayel Hovhannisyan, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Development and Innovation at Yerevan State University; Professor Arthur Mkrtichyan, Dean of the Faculty of Sociology at Yerevan State University; and Zara Aslanyan, Head of the Youth Policy Department of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia.

During the presentation, the author of the monograph, Marina Galstyan, introduced the main findings of the research, including young people's life strategies, a typology of Armenian youth, the Youth Independence Index, and patterns of youth participation.

The presentation was followed by a panel discussion, during which the speakers highlighted the importance of such research for a deeper understanding of the challenges facing young people and for the development of evidence-based youth policies. They emphasised the role of research in informing youth policy, educational reforms, and public decision-making processes. The discussion was moderated by Professor Arthur Atanesyan, Head of the Department of Applied Sociology at Yerevan State University.

The monograph was developed within the framework of a research project supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. It was recommended for publication as a monograph by the Academic Council of Yerevan State University and published by YSU Publishing House.

Armenian Youth at the Crossroads of Uncertainty and Hope provides a comprehensive sociological analysis of the social realities of contemporary Armenian youth, drawing on extensive quantitative and qualitative research data. The book examines young people's educational pathways, employment opportunities, political and civic participation, lifestyles, migration intentions, transitions to independence, and perceptions of the future within the context of a post-war and rapidly changing society. The monograph reveals the complex environment in which young people in Armenia simultaneously face uncertainty, risks, and structural constraints while continuing to sustain hope as an orientation towards the future. The publication aims to contribute to the scholarly understanding of youth issues in Armenia and to the development of evidence-based youth policies.

The monograph was prepared within the framework of the project Armenian Youth in Post-War Armenia: Research and Discourse, led by Marina Galstyan, PhD in Sociology, in cooperation with the Center for Educational Research and Consulting. The project was made possible through the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. The views and approaches expressed in this publication are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the position of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

The Center for Educational Research and Consulting extends its sincere gratitude to all partners, participants, and collaborating organisations for their valuable support in the implementation of the research project and the successful organisation of the book presentation.

Special thanks are extended to Yerevan State University, the Sargis and Mari Izmirlian Library of Yerevan State University, Yerevan State University Publishing House, the Faculty of Sociology of Yerevan State University, and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for their important and productive cooperation.
